Lumerical, Zemax OpticStudio, Speos: Highlights 2024 R2

The 2024 R2 release of Ansys Optics has brought some significant improvements to all the core optics and photonics products in the Ansys portfolio. Below are some of the main highlights for each product.

Lumerical: new figure of merit (FoM)

In 2024 R2 we are seeing a significant expansion of Lumerical’s inverse design capabilities with the introduction of a new figure of merit (FoM). This new FoM allows users to optimize design for the electric field at various regions in the simulation domain. This capability is accompanied by a new field region object (includes monitor & recorded source) to make the process easier for users. This new inverse design capability is expected to be immediately applicable for applications such as colour router metasurfaces in CMOS sensors as well as many other applications.

Zemax OpticStudio: POP analysis

The 2024 R2 version has introduced the capability to perform a POP analysis (Physical Optics Propagation) in systems with black boxes. This innovation enables wave optics analysis while ensuring the privacy and confidentiality of sensitive and proprietary design information. Additionally, the 2024 R2 version now supports the use of new irregularity operands in the ISO drawing notation 3|A(B/C) for tolerance design. Consequently, you can effortlessly perform tolerancing of RSI (Rotationally Symmetric Irregularity), RMS total irregularity, peak-to-peak power, and peak-to-valley irregularity. This is made possible through the implementation of the Composite Surface feature.

Speos: light guides with multiple optical axes

Exciting new capabilities have been added to the Speos design toolbox including light guides with multiple optical axes. This feature represents a step change in design freedom for aesthetic lighting systems. Regarding scene analysis, the newly introduced ability to capture temporal variations in light sources during camera simulations, enables effects such as LED flickering to be captured.PUB_Interview_2024R2_Optics_Content
