How many material libraries for LS-DYNA does Ansys Forming have?

LS-DYNA is also one of the technical leaders in industrial forming applications. However, this area of modeling requires the use of specialized material models. Let's take a look at what the built-in library of Ansys Forming, LS-DYNA's state-of-the-art vertical forming modeling application, offers.

Featured material models

When stamping from sheet metal, stresses in the through-thickness direction are generally not very important. Calculations in this area are mainly performed using the shell formulation, and material models are refined for this type of discretization. By reducing the number of dimensions, material models for stamping gain advanced abilities to describe the plastic flow of metal. Therefore, as a rule, Hill 1948 or Barlat 1989 and 2000 plastic flow models are used instead of the classical isotropic Von Mises model. These models allow us to consider the influence of plastic anisotropy on the material's behavior. Specialized results, such as the Formability Index, which requires the Forming Limit Diagram, are also appearing. These are just some of the typical changes in material models.

Material Libraries in Ansys Forming

The Ansys Forming material library contains data provided by BaoSteel and TiwaQuest, as well as materials used in the NUMISHEET benchmark series and from public sources. In total, more than 70 material models are available.

The material model is saved within the Forming project or in an external binary file. Additionally, Ansys Forming can import LS-DYNA material models. It is also possible to create your own library of materials.
